“Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give.” – Ben Carson
As part of our 30th birthday initiatives, we really wanted to give something back to a community close to us and partnered with a charity called SOS Africa in need of support. As a first step, we donated veggie boxes to be used by them to grow food for the students.
Beyond this initial donation, we realised that we also wanted to give something that would be longer lasting. And so, we’ve committed to helping them create a vegetable patch and sensory garden in their quad at the school.
While there are existing squares of open soil to work with, these need to be composted and frames built to provide shade during the hot afternoons and to act as trellises for pea and bean plants.
The vegetables that the garden yields will be used in the school’s soup kitchen to assist with their feeding scheme, and the children in aftercare will be involved in making the soup each week.
We’re delighted to be involved in this project, which is set to kick off next year. We’ll provide more details in the upcoming weeks and months and will keep you updated on our progress.
